The Society was not formally established until 1979, nevertheless workshops, courses and related activities were organised intensively during the 70´s. Officially, the Committee for parenteral and enteral nutrition was founded by Zdeněk Zadák and his co-workers in 1979, and the Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in former Czechoslovakia was established in 1985. The broad range of activity of the Society included annual congresses with international participations, educational courses for physicians and nurses, and numerous workshops, lectures and meetings. The Society promoted research and publication activity and it became highly respected within the health professionals. Following 1999, international contacts widespread intensively. The Clinical Nutrition Subgroup, focused especially to dietary practice and food industry, started to work in 1999, and the Society got its actual name – Czech Society of Clinical Nutrition and Intensive Metabolic Care- in 2000.
